The thing that stood out for me about this video is the aesthetic contrast. This video for the song off of Cardi's successful debut album , was directed by an amazingly talented creative director named Jora Frantzis . This video incorporates imagery and aesthetics from the classic "Kill Bill" film series directed by the talented Quentin Tarantino and follows Cardi as she marries a man in a beautiful desert in California . The light and neutral tones of colour go hand in hand with what a wedding is stereo-typically supposed to be , but yet this aesthetic still has an eerie feel. The video just seems to grow darker and darker as she vents about her pain ,especially when the context shifts to Cardi attending this same man's funeral , which is then clouded by a dark , grey and horrifying aesthetic .
I swear this piece of art just seems to evoke such an incredibly emotional response , no matter how hard we try to act tough. In some way or another , this video shows us that we can relate to some of her heartache in a way we've never even considered and that is one of the many things that art is supposed to do,make us aware of what we've always tried to ignore. I have watched this video over and over and at this point all of the variables and amazing work that went into it just make it so hard for me to call it "another music video" , because its almost a cinematic experience.
I must say this video is quite poetic and if anything, its an emotional roller-coaster and will leave you absolutely SHOOOOOOK (especially when she... wait never mind. You'll just have to see it for yourself)
